As if the desire to snowboard isn’t strong enough all summer, all this new snow in Utah has made it borderline unbearable. But we’re in luck! This weekend, June 20th – 22nd, is the last chance to shred Arapahoe Basin in Colorado for the 2013/14 season. Now your initial thought might be, “Hey Jake, we’re in Salt Lake City, that’s like a 7 hour drive.” As someone who considers himself a road trip aficionado, what with having driven multiple times to Denver, couple times to Washington, and even a few 22 hour trips to my home state of Minnesota, I can promise you a 7 hour road trip is MORE than worth it to shred. Plus there is surprisingly cheap lodging in the surrounding area such as Silverthorne, Dillon, Frisco, and Breckenridge.
Besides snowboarding being fun in and of itself, A-Basin still has quite a bit of terrain to offer. There is a pond skimming run you can bomb down and try your luck at shooting across snow in liquid form, as well as a few features in a mini terrain park and two lifts to take you to some all around fun in the sun.
And the best part… it’s cheap! Those of you Canyons die-hards can snowboard at A-Basin for free on the Epic Pass, otherwise it’s only $99.00 for the whole weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!
One of my favorite aspects of this crazy lifestyle we live, is the sense of adventure everyone seems to possess. There are times when you get an overwhelming need to explore; to cram in the car and see something new, or shred somewhere new.
