Description
Ascend further and descend with confidence in the Smith Summit MIPS Helmet. This helmet is engineered for those who push boundaries in the mountains, from challenging skin tracks to exposed boot packs and committing summit bids. Its design blends a minimalist approach with mountaineering-specific details, making it an ultra-light yet exceptionally protective go-to lid for backcountry touring and ski mountaineering.
A defining feature of the Summit is its Triple Certification. It’s Smith’s first helmet to meet not only global alpine ski certifications (ASTM F 2040, CE EN 1077: 2007 Class B) but also international mountaineering standards (EN 12492). This ensures peace of mind, knowing you’re protected for both the way up and the way down, whether you’re navigating technical ascents or carving through steep descents in the Wasatch Range.
For advanced impact protection, the Summit employs a Hybrid Shell Construction, blending a durable ABS hard shell on top for critical impact areas with a lightweight in-molded shell for reduced weight. This is further enhanced by Zonal Koroyd® Coverage. Koroyd®, a unique honeycomb-like material, is strategically placed to absorb energy more efficiently than traditional materials, acting as a crumple zone while dramatically increasing airflow for superior ventilation. Complementing this, the MIPS® (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) Brain Protection System reduces rotational forces to the head caused by angled impacts, offering an additional layer of critical safety.
The Summit is designed for the demands of the backcountry. Its Smith Flexible Fit System, featuring BOA®, offers a micro-adjustable fit that also cleverly collapses into the helmet, allowing for ultimate packability without fear of damaging the fit system when stowed in a backpack. Thirty-three fixed vents provide consistent airflow, crucial for managing temperature during strenuous ascents and preventing goggle fog. The AirEvac™ Ventilation system integrates seamlessly with Smith goggles for fog-free lenses.
Thoughtful features for mountaineering include integrated headlamp strap routing to keep your light securely in place, and elastic side tethers for easy attachment to the outside of a pack, eliminating the need for bulky external helmet carriers. The helmet’s design is also beanie and ball cap compatible, allowing you to customize your warmth and style according to the conditions. The Ionic+™ antimicrobial lining offers sweat-activated odor control for long days in the mountains.
