Every crew has one. Every crew needs one. Skating and snowboarding wouldn’t be where it is today without them. I am talking about the unsung heroes of the action sports world, the filmers. Where would we be without the guys and girls behind the lens? What would we watch to get us stoked before a session? How would you ever show your grandparents your sweet 6in. ollie without your neighbor buddy filming you?

I am writing this today as an ode to these fearless filmers. The ones who stand out in the cold for hours at a handrail while you try to land a FS 50-50 because you think you’re going to get sponsored. They spend endless nights logging footage, editing tirelessly, all for a 5-minute edit of you falling off rails early and reverting out of spins. The world wide web would be a lot more boring without the homie blogs full of shredding and hijinks. Transworld Skateboarding even made a movie, The Cinematographer Project, showing the wide range of talents and styles from the greats in the skateboard industry.

So here’s to you filmers of the world. Thank you for spending tons of your hard earned money on gear that probably won’t end up filming any real talent. Keep plugging away you relentless camera jockeys, because someday you’ll be the one with a real job, making great money and getting paid vacation while your bro Buck Nobody will be stuck at Salty Peaks writing nonsensical blogs for $4/hr remembering how he was going to go pro. Cheers.
