It has recently surfaced that Ian Cumming and family, founder’s of Powdr Corporation who own Park City Mountain Resort among others, have purchased the majority interest in Snowbird. Some people seem to think that Powdr Corp now owns Snowbird, when in fact the deal was made between the Cumming family and the Bass family, the original co-founders of Snowbird.
I for one am all for this new partnership. I had heard about Snowbird being for sale and immediately assumed some massive corporation like Vail Resorts, Boyne, or even Powdr Corp would swoop in, buy it, and make way too many changes like Vail did with my home mountain in Minnesota, Afton Alps. But with the Cumming family personally purchasing Snowbird, I think they’ll have much more of a desire to keep things generally the way they are, while making a few changes only to improve the resort for the locals who love it. Maybe they’ll even offer free passes to local snowboard shop employees, COUGH.
