Every year at the end of January, the vast majority of the snowboard industry convenes on the Mile High City [insert weed pun] for the SIA Snow Sports Tradeshow. For some reason, this year seemed to be more heavily covered by online media than ever before, so I thought I’d take the liberty of compiling all this material into one incredibly convenient place. Enjoy.
I’m kicking things off with Yobeat because not only are they one of my favorite snowboard blogs, they always take an outside-the-box approach the covering snowboarding events. While all the major magazines took the family friendly route of showing nothing but product previews, Yobeat took the liberty of reporting more on the parties, debauchery, and attractive women that litter the tradeshow floor, with a few products thrown in there for good measure.
To be completely honest, I’ve never heard of The Not Snowboarding Podcast until I saw that my homie Daniel Burritosandsnow Cochrane was on it chatting about the nitty gritty of SIA, which I was stoked on because this turned out to be by far my favorite inside look at the show. Burritos provides a very raw, unfiltered look at what life on the tradeshow floor is really like, especially from a financial standpoint [aka it’s wicked expensive], as well as rad vs. BS trends and the biggest story of SIA which you’ll have to find out by listening. FYI, it’s 45 minutes long, but definitely worth it.
Angry Snowboarder is a smaller blog in the grand scheme of the internet, but he’s always good for a laugh. This year, the only post he did on SIA was showcasing the absolute WORST “innovation” in snowboarding that I have ever seen in his usual blend of hilarious sarcasm and no-nonsensery.
