It’s been awhile since I’ve written a blog, partly because of the wild times at SIA (blog coming soon) and partly because I recently had some friends from my home state of Minnesota come visit. Being from Minnesota, we all grew up riding some short, icy runs. Don’t get me wrong, I had a blast and still love riding the Midwest when I venture home. But wanting to give these guys a taste of Utah’s greatest asset; next level powder, we headed North to a hidden gem known as Powder Mountain.
JD, Ryan, myself, and shop girl Libby. Thanks other Ryan for the pic!
As if by some miracle, their trip was timed perfectly with this latest storm. Even though it was cloudy, it continued to snow the entire day, filling in tracks and keeping the powder perfect. I decided after a day of epic proportions, I should get a little feedback from my brothers to the East on their first true powder experience, while enjoying an adult beverage at the Powder Keg of course.
SP: Alright gentlemen, I know your first impression of Utah was soured by the liquor laws, but did the snow make up for it?
RR: O definitely, I was all mad about buying a bunch of 3.2 beer without knowing it, but I’ll let it slide after the runs we just had.
SP: Just how exhausted are you after riding steep and deep at Pow Mow?
JD: Beat! We’ve been working out in MN and it still didn’t get us ready for those lines.
RD: Yea I had no idea what to expect, I thought I was more ready!
Ryan going for his first Utah pow slash.
SP: I’m going to have to try to line up a heli trip next time you guys come, I don’t know how else we’re going to top cat boarding!
RR: I can’t wait to see what you’re going to pull out of your a** next year! Haha
RD: Haha I can’t even imagine better than that!
JD cruising down to the bus after Powder Country.
SP: What about the vibes at Pow Mow? To me it feels so mellow, everyone there is just having fun and stoked to ride.
JD: Yea I loved it, it reminded me of Midwest riding… just way bigger!
RD: For sure, it has that same laid back, rustic feel.
RR: But yea, LOTS more snow!
SP: Is it going to be hard going back to riding in the Midwest?
RD: We’ll definitely still shred the home hills, but there’s no doubt we’ll be back next year!
You probably can’t tell, but this is Libby getting lost in the white room.
SP: So to sum it all up, give me one word to describe your experience here in Utah riding pow at Pow Mow.
RR: Epic.
RD: EPIC.
JD: Yea I’m going to go with epic! Haha
It can be easy to become jaded here it Utah. We are so spoiled snow-wise that it was great for me and hopefully you to see powder again from a fresh perspective. Don’t get me wrong, even though I’ve lived out West for 5 years now, Powder Mountain has been the best riding experience of my life, so even though this little interview was about my friends impressions, I was just as stoked! So thanks again to Greg and the great people at Pow Mow for making dreams come true. Cheers!
