Description
Step into a board that’s both a nod to the past and a leap into the future with the GNU Something GNU Snowboard, available now at Salty Peaks Snowboard Shop in Salt Lake City! Inspired by Mike Olson’s early ’80s finless designs but packed with four decades of Mervin Manufacturing’s board-building wisdom, this directional freeride machine is designed to deliver unprecedented carving power and effortless powder float across the entire Wasatch range.
The Something GNU takes the concept of deep carving to a new level with its fine-tuned progressive sidecuts. These unique sidecuts provide incredibly forgiving turn entry, allowing you to initiate carves with ease. As you drive through the turn, you’ll feel a “fin-like” hold in the tail, enabling truly deep, powerful, trenched carving even on hardpack and ice. This board is built for the rider who loves to lay down serious trenches on groomers.
At its core, the Something GNU features a modern directional C2 Contour (Camber/Rocker/Camber hybrid). This profile blends the stable edge hold and powerful pop of camber underfoot with a mellow rocker between the bindings for forgiveness and float. The combination works in harmony with the unique sidecut, ensuring easy turn initiation and powerful resort carving, while the tight, shorter camber in the tail adds significant hold for radical power turns.
For those special Utah powder days, the long, smooth tip entry floats effortlessly, ensuring you stay on top of the deepest stashes. The swallow tail and taper further enhance control and buoyancy in soft snow, allowing the board to settle nicely and drive through powder with ease.
Built with a medium-firm flex (approx. 6.5-8/10 depending on size), the Something GNU is powerful and responsive, ideal for intermediate to advanced riders looking to push their carving and freeride limits. It’s constructed with an Aspen and Paulownia wood core for lightweight strength and lively feel, complemented by a Sintered Knife-Cut Base for blazing speed and excellent wax retention.
As always, the GNU Something GNU Snowboard is Handcrafted in the USA at Mervin Manufacturing with zero hazardous waste, showcasing their commitment to quality and the environment. If you’re ready for a board that feels like “something new” every time you ride, delivering a unique blend of heritage and cutting-edge performance, the GNU Something GNU is waiting for you at Salty Peaks.
