The Bern Macon Hard Hat Snowboard Helmet is a non-certified soft foam helmet; it's not designed to take extreme, life threatening impacts, but rather to absorb lower speed impacts that a traditional EPS foam helmet wouldn't necessarily do much to protect against. If you aren't charging hard and tend to bonk your noggin ocassionally, then the hard hat is the perfect option for you since you don't need to replace it everytime you got rocked.
