The Burton Men’s Step On Bindings mark a historic shift in snowboard interface engineering, resurrecting and revolutionizing quick-entry technology without sacrificing high-speed edge control or responsiveness. Released to solve the poor response and shaky lateral support of 1990s-era step-in plates, the modern first-generation Step On system utilizes a standard highback shape paired with an integrated Re:Flex™ baseplate. This allows the binding to retain the familiar, natural underfoot flex and board feel of a traditional strap binding.
Operating via three strategic locking points—one active heel clip and two independent lateral toe hooks—the first-generation model locks the rider down completely. The heel component provides initial security, while the front toe cleats click into position to eliminate side-to-side slop. Once locked, a quick-release lever mounted flush to the side of the baseplate allows for instant exit at the bottom of the run.
Note: When sourcing a used first-generation Step On binding, it is critical to thoroughly inspect the toe hook configurations and ensure that the heel clip engagement spring operates smoothly and clicks completely into place without stickiness. Additionally, note that early-generation modern Step On bindings require matching Step On boots to operate.
