Remember Soap Shoes? Shoes that grind.

I’m so glad these never took off. What do you do when you don’t want to take the time to learn how to skate or snowboard? Well, you buy a pair of shoes with high arches and a grind plate and you slowly slide down rails and a few choice curbs. For some of you kids out there you have no idea what I’m talking about…I’m talking about Soap Shoes. Soap shoes were shoes designed to grind. I picked up a pair of Soap’s on eBay about 10 years ago and tried them out. The coolest trick I ever did was walking out of a Best Buy while wearing them and forgetting that I couldn’t step on a slick speed bump which I grinded uncontrollably before busting my ass in front of a Suburban. The shoes quickly went into the trash (not the Goodwill) because I didn’t want anyone else to buy these pieces of crap. Check out these professional shoe grinders now, and kids, you need to realize that throughout our lives there will always be a new fad *cough Razor scooters *cough every year and you need to invest your time into real boardsports. No chick will ever want to say “My boyfriend is a professional razor scooter rider.”

Here’s the video that tricked a huge population into thinking “maybe this is kind of cool.”

If you want to see the graveyard of Soap Shoes-ing check out Solid Grind, a blog that used to be the authority on the activity. And if you want to try out an activity that will be cool for the rest of your life try skateboarding, longboarding or snowboarding!
