This TED talk isn’t new, it’s from March, but it’s a great chance to hear about a legend’s ride to fame and what comes with it. He talks about how he fell in love with skateboarding because it was a solo activity, there was no coach or team coming down on you. He then talks about how the stress of always winning is what made him hate skateboarding and when freestyle vanished from the scene he was actually liberated and excited to create. I think what we can learn from this talk is that even the greats, people with insane talents and trajectories will fall and it’s up to you to pick yourself up and keep on fighting. Rodney Mullen’s life has not been simple. If you want to learn more about him watch the Bones Brigade documentary. He and Lance Mountain are the clear standouts in my opinion.
