Salty Peaks Ruins the News – #TBT

Salty Peaks Ruins the News

Ok so we didn’t actually ruin the news, but I recently stumbled across some incredible videos from back in the day featuring ex-employee and SLUG Mag writer Mike Brown completely trolling a sweet and simple news reporter, and it’s HILARIOUS. Local news stations around the country are notorious for being absent minded when it comes to most sub-cultures, and turns out skateboarding is no exception. Being a very hijinx-oriented person, Mike took it upon himself to have some fun with sweet ol’ Kelly and misinform her on a couple aspects of our sideways lifestyle.

“This is where me, Mike Brown, ruins my local news morning show,” Mike writes in the YouTube description. “They wanted me to show the local quirky morning news lady how to skateboard, so I ‘forgot’ to bring her pads and told her skaters say things like ‘Gnarlishious’ and ‘Whacktastic’ and the rest of the news team is pretty mean to her.”

He mentions the incident again in a recent SLUG Mag article:

“The last time I interacted with a pageant queen was when I was asked to show a former Miss Utah how to skateboard on the live morning local newscast. Needless to say, she ended up eating street on live TV after it looks like I pushed her into the shallow bowl at Guthrie Skate Park. To this day, I maintain my innocence, but if you look up ‘Local Skater Ruins Morning Newscast,’ you can judge for yourself.”

Mike had the video split into two parts, but thanks to my Windows Movie Maker wizardry and YouTube now allowing longer videos, I compiled them into this one convenient video. Enjoy this glimpse into Utah’s rich history, and for those of you whose attention span has been ruined by the internet and social media, I mashed up all my favorite parts into the shorter second video. You’re welcome.
