According to their Instagram and website, the SLS Championship Tour is back in action and Utah skate enthusiasts will reap the rewards even more so. The first official stop following qualifiers will be held at none other than the beautiful Salt Lake City the weekend of August 27th. Location within the Salt Lake Valley is not yet known but all they need is the SLS-certified plaza and they will construct their one-of-a-kind, completely custom-built park for the big dogs to thrown down on. My first guesses for the event’s location would either be the Gallivan Center since it pretty much perfectly fits the bill for the SLS specifications, or the Vivint Arena with its capability to host over 18,000 people. It would probably be in their best interest to have it at either of those options with them being close to a bunch of bars so the crowd will come in juiced up with some pep in their step. I usually charge for that kind of ground-breaking advice but this one’s on the house.
With Street League “rebranding” into the SLS Championship Tour, they are reducing the roster size back to the original size with the contestants being hand-selected from the top talent and names in skateboarding. They are also allegedly rethinking the format of the competition to encourage a faster-paced and more exciting atmosphere for both the skaters and viewers. Some newcomers have an opportunity to go up against the pros if they can make it through qualifiers at Paul Rodriguez‘s Primitive Park in July. This is also the first competition to take place at P-Rod‘s new complex! The reward for winning qualifiers is a spot on the roster to go head to head with skateboarding’s best of the best.
The first stop in Salt Lake City will be from August 27-28, 2021 then followed by the second stop in Miami, Florida on October 29-30, with the final Super Crown Championship stop in Jacksonville, Florida on November 13-14.
