As the 2018 Winter Olympics charge ahead with intense competition, looking back at the US’s current medal count is certainely exciting for the snowboard community. Of our 6 gold medals so far, 4 of those have been won by some incredibly talented snowboarders. It’s no surprise that these amazing athletes are riding the best gear in the industry, and we at Salty Peaks are proud to carry such awesome products from brands like Gnu and Burton that are truly progressing snowboarding in the right direction.
The first gold for the US was an amazing one by the young buck and now hero of snowboarding Red Gerard after over sleeping and misplacing his jacket. This seemingly average 17-year old gave us a nail biting ride as he didn’t reach first place until his final run, causing everyone here at the shop and in snowboarding as a whole to collectively lose it with excitement.

Following up Red’s win was Jamie Anderson, one of the most decorated contest winners in snowboarding as we speak. Despite less than ideal conditions (that frankly no one should be forced to snowboard in), Jamie was still able to put down an inspiring run to earn the gold.

Similar to Red, another 17-year old prodigy, Chloe Kim, brought home the third gold of the games in the Women’s Halfpipe event. Chloe is an absolute powerhouse in the pipe and put down the most progressive and impressive run I’ve had the pleasure of seeing.

Last but certainly not the least, Shaun White once again did what he does best, which is winning. The fourth and final snowboard gold came from Mr. White’s mind blowing performance in the Men’s Halfpipe contest

The next event you’re not going to want to miss is the Women’s Snowboard Big Air Finals going down Thursday, Feb. 22nd at 7:30 ET (5:30 MST) where we’re sure to watch either Jamie Anderson or Julie Marino take the top spot for the US once again!
