A new record has been set for the most expensive snowboard ever sold, and it’s insane. A bidding war wrapped up on eBay on 07/01/14 for a 1977 Vintage Burton Experimental Prototype Snowboard at a whopping $31,313. 13!
The story is that this is an extremely rare prototype that was made before Jake Burton founded the Backhill Londonberry line. Jake gave it to the seller, Chris, in trade for working on some early snowboards, and was only ridden a couple of times. Whether this board is authentic or not, it shattered the previous record of $11,732 for a Custom Burton Black Widow Experimental Series board.
Whether it’s collector’s coming out of the wood work to start selling or companies looking to the past for ideas for the future, vintage boards have been gaining a lot of interest in the snowboard industry as of late. If you have an old school board in your possession, now might be a good time to get it apprasied. The next in line for the most expensive board is $15,000, so you never know what your board is worth.
