I’m not going to lie, when High Cascade and Windells announced on April 1st that they were merging their separate summer camps, I thought it was an April Fools Joke. That is not the case however, and more posts about it today have confirmed that they are in fact merging. This summer the two camps will remain separate, but after that they will be forever known as We Are Camp, LLC.
Seeing as I’ve never been to either High Cascade or Windells, I can’t say I’m personally for or against this merger, but as a snowboarder, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bummed. I have always respected HCSC for being “100% snowboarding”, for never giving in and allowing skiers, just to make some extra money. I’m not saying that that’s what Windells did, but I think HCSC definitely could have expanded and made more money if they allowed skiers too, but they haven’t out of their commitment to and passion for snowboarding.
It felt good knowing we had a summer shred camp all to ourselves. With resorts like Alta, Deer Valley, and Mad River Glen still discriminating against snowboarders, I’ve always loved that snowboarders had a utopia to call all their own. Word on the street is that the HCSC Main Park will remain 100% snowboarding, but realistically, how long will that last? If the camps are truly merging, I feel like both skiers and snowboarders will eventually be allowed on all terrain.
Either way, it’s pretty hilarious to me that they announced it on April Fools Day, because a ton of people, myself included, thought it was a joke! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject, so please feel free to leave a comment below or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
