Snow Made From Human Waste?

Arizona’s Snowbowl will be the first resort in the world to use reclaimed waste as their main source for snowmaking water. This means they will be using sewage water, straining out the brown and yellow stuff, cleaning out most of the harmful contaminants, and then spraying that all over their mountain. On first hearing of this I want to puke, straight up. But the environmentalist in me thinks this is probably going to become the norm in the next 50 years the way we are using water and polluting the planet. Many people are against Arizona’s Snowbowl from doing this, and the most upset are the Hopi Indian tribe. The Hopi people consider this mountain as sacred ground and were overruled in a fight against the mountain in becoming a ski resort in the first place. Now Snowbowl is about to spray fecal remnants all over their native land!

There’s no way for me to address the native’s concerns because I have to assume they would have won their lawsuit by now if the courts were going to give them back their mountain, but as an environmentally conscious human being, maybe this isn’t the worst thing ever. Many cities and states in the South are already using this reclaimed water to hydrate public lands and parks and maybe we shouldn’t be using our best drinking water on our recreational spots. I mean who eats snow anymore anyways?

I think this will be an interesting experiment and is probably just a taste of what’s to come. The technology is definitely impressive and if Astronauts drink their pee in space and Kevin Kostner drank his pee in Waterworld, maybe it’s us who are missing out on some 98.6 degree deliciousness…
