VINTAGE 1980 BLACK WINTERSTICK SWALLOWTAIL

The Winterstick swallowtail was designed by Dimitrije Milovich in the 1970s and developed through riding Wasatch terrain in places like Snowbird, Alta, and Flagstaff Bowl. Winterstick was at the very forefront of the movement to “surf on snow,” and the swallowtail, patented in 1972, was designed with a distinct split tail specifically engineered for exceptional performance in deep powder, providing unparalleled floatation and a unique, surf-inspired carving feel. This model also featured additions unique to the era, such elastic strap bindings and a run away brake system. The Winterstick Swallowtail also came in an assortment of colors made for different regions of the world. This version, the black Swallowtail, had a very limited run that was destined just for Europe. It is estimated that only 100 were made of this special model, making it the rarest “production” colorway in Winterstick history. So not only difficult to find, but virtually impossible to find with all of its original hardware and bindings… unless you stop by Salty Peaks, where we’ve had one stored safely in a padded bag for 45 years!!
